Flawed Smoke Alarm Standards

Fire & Rescue New South Wales (FRNSW) is the world's fourth-largest urban fire brigade.

In 2016, whilst on National Australian TV, Commissioner Mullins stated,
"The tests are different tests for these two" (ionisation and photoelectric) . . . "the standard (Australian Smoke Alarm Standard, AS3786-1993) is flawed."

In the U.S. ionisation smoke alarms are defended/the smoke alarm standard (UL217) is justified because the ionisation alarms are able to pass the same tests as the photoelectric alarms.  However, since 1977, there have been repeated claims that the U.S. smoke alarm standard is also flawed.

Please read, the 'Open Letter' (page 3), and page 7 of the Report which vindicates Commissioner Mullin's statement (on the 'About' page) that the Australian Smoke Alarm Standards (AS3786-1993 & AS2362.17) are also flawed.
